Day Eighteen… Trapped Inside with a Banged up Foot… O5/28/15

Good Morning folks… This was the general temperature for the day but I couldn’t enjoy it because my foot was swollen and it was very painful to walk on… So I decided it would be a lazy day today… I don’t think I broke or sprained my foot, I just think it is badly bruised right over my tendons and bones on the top of my foot… So it has made my whole foot look like a balloon… I figured I would stay off it today and see how it looks tomorrow… If it’s not any better tomorrow, I will go to the local clinic or hospital… I will spare you the pictures of my feet… No one wants to look at other people’s feet and if you do, there are other websites that cater to such fetishes…

Not a very exciting day to blog about so I will take this opportunity to talk about this amazing radio station I have been listening to… Now remember, I have been on the road for 18 days now, not consecutively of course, considering half that time was traveling from my home to my Mother’s home to drop things off, I needed stored… But during those #traveling days, I found the #radio to be practically unbearable… When you did get a good station with good reception, it would either go to commercial or soon be out of range. I hit my gems here and there but found myself popping in a C.D. out of aggravation most of the time.

The thing that aggravates me most is the amount of #commercials these days… They play commercials just as much as they play music! It’s insane! Then to top it off, when you try to find another #station to avoid these commercials, you find that all the stations go to commercial at the same time so you can’t find such refuge… Is this what we really have become? A culture that pushes it’s advertising on it’s people at every chance we can get? No one is listening to the damn commercials! They are either cursing at you, trying to channel surf into some sort of musical #solace or they just put a damn C.D. on! We are defeating the purpose of advertising and destroying a great #Americanpasttime, #cruising in your #vehicle blasting your favorite #radiostation… This is how a lot of Americans feel their #freedom, on the road, cranking the radio, considering everywhere else is just everyday life…

Look, I understand there has to be advertising, especially if we are going to enjoy something for #free but it never used to be this bad… You would get a few commercials and then you were back to good old #classicmusic… But now, you don’t even enjoy the music anymore because you are constantly anticipating more commercials coming after each song… You become gun shy, realizing that your #enjoyment can be sabotaged by cheesy D.J’s and a bunch of voice overs trying to sell you shit by relating to your trivial, pathetic life… When all you really want to do is forget about your #life for awhile as you belt out your “American Idol” worthy performance with some group that makes you feel free and alive… Just like life, radio today is always there to remind you that you have to get your car checked, buy some groceries, get that new revolutionary cleaning fluid, ect… ect… ect…

It is completely mind numbing and absolutely absurd what we deal with in our everyday lives! Everywhere we turn, someone or something is trying to sell us shit! Be aware of it… you will see it if you don’t believe me… I tell you this because just when I lost all hope I found #free99.1 in #Littleton, #New Hampshire… All I can say is WOW!!! They have blown my mind! I don’t even want to leave this #campsite because I love blasting this station while sitting by the #campfire…

Not only do they not have any commercials at all, I think I have heard one set of commercials the whole time I have listened to this station.. that’s all I remember at least because the one set of commercials I do remember were so short and sweet, I didn’t even have time to complain… They were just #localshops telling you about their local shops… Nothing more, no repeated phone numbers, no constant branding of their product, no guarantees, just local cats telling you “Hey, I’m here… Come check me out…” You know… remember the way it used to be?

Between almost every song, you have this #stoner type, #anti-D.J., relaxed voice saying hilarious crap like, “free 99.1… we play whatever… whenever…” The way this D.J. says it is so hilarious… He brands the station like he could give two shits and is just trying to make his way back for another bong hit… “Thanks for being disenfranchised enough to be apart of our club… free 99.1… playing whatever… whenever…” absolutely classic and the D.J. is only the cherry on top…

here’s a 10 second sound bite if it works… Don’t know how media works on this site, so please bear with me…

This station boasts itself to never repeat one song in a day and it isn’t messing around… They also brag about how most stations just recycle 100 songs over and over but their station plays over a 1000 different songs, never repeating one. Plus the music is amazing. You hear #songs you haven’t heard in years! They play any song from #classicmusic to hip hop… Now I’m not a hip hop person at all and change the radio station when I hear such music… but with this station, they somehow find the popular hip hop music of the past that is somewhat bearable… They pick the songs that have some sort of #talent attached.. So I have no eagerness to change the #channel.. I mean, don’t get me wrong, there are some lemons in the batch but you listen to them because you admire the fact that it will probably be followed by a song that redeems the whole station again…

Actually, if they did play some commercials, I would listen… really! I would listen because I have respect for this station and want to keep it in business, so I would go out and make an effort to help their advertisers! Now, the question is, how does this station stay in business? I’m guessing we are so in the middle of nowhere that this station doesn’t cost much to run. I bet they make enough money off of their few advertisers to get by. Who knows, maybe the town of Littleton pays for it… Or maybe, just maybe, some #disenfranchised idiot like myself, but with money, decided he was tired of listening to commercials and wanted a station that just played music and really stuck it to the #Corporations… Let me tell you, whoever runs this station hates the #Corporateworld and they let you know by conveying their disgust through the lazy, I don’t give a crap anti-D.J. voice saying #anti-corporate type things…

Even if that anti-corporate millionaire doesn’t exist an idea came to mind… What if someone was to start a group that hates radio today, raised money from others who hate radio and went across the country buying cheap radio stations and pushing this well needed radio philosophy that exists in Littleton, NH… I guarantee there are millions out there that feel the way I do but don’t want to buy satellite or go through the painstaking process of playlists, which gets old very quickly… There are millions like me who like the fact that you can turn on the radio and get random music that will help you forget about life for awhile…

Folks, the hard part is already done… creating the radio station, I mean. I would be happy as shit just playing this particular station across the country… It is perfect and has no downfalls… at all! Then when the country gets wind of this #revolutionary station, I bet they all will tune in… Then what happens? All those Corporate stations, that are constantly peddling their crap, no longer have #listeners… In turn, we get our radio back! It is our radio America! Not the Corporations’! We listen to it, we keep it alive, without us, it doesn’t exist! Why have we come to a point where the commercials and Corporate greed have taken over one of our favorite #Americanpasttimes? We don’t have to put up with it! I know I am not alone here…

Sorry for the #soapbox folks but I have to express some of my greviences with this country and culture. There is a reason I am out in the middle of the #woods trying to #rediscover myself here… One of the main reasons is my distaste with the #control we allow these #big-companies get away with… I know they help in some ways but the cons overwhelm the good, if you are wise enough to notice it…

So, I decided to soak my pain ridden foot in some hot water with sea salt… It helped a lot and I went ahead and redressed the wound… My foot looked like a bloated tick by the time I finished with this process… I was so concerned, it made me eager to get cooking and getting back into bed… Luckily it started raining out, so I didn’t feel guilty not starting a campfire… My foot picked the perfect day to recover considering I would be inside anyways…

So, it was time to #cook #dinner and I wanted a good dinner tonight. Something really special… Considering my last piece of chicken was approaching its expiration, I figured I needed to get that cooked and consumed… So I decided to make chicken parmesan with organic #Californian rice… Hmmmmhmmmm…. I make a great chicken parmesan, let me tell you!

Here I am boiling the rice. You have to boil it and then simmer it for 30 minutes… So, I figured I could get that cooking while I prepared the chicken.

img_1719img_1720

Then I took the chicken and browned it in a pan… Now anyone that puts their chicken into the sauce raw is taking a huge risk… You should always brown meat in a pan before you bake it, especially chicken or seafood and definitely when you are on a camping trip… This reduces the risk of #foodpoisoning or, god forbid, #salmonella… I know it’s an extra step and a pain in the ass but if you have ever had full blown food poisoning, like I have, you find the extra steps #justifiable!

After I browned the chicken, I doused it in arrabbiata sauce and sprinkled the top with parmesan cheese… I used a castironpan so I can brown the chicken and bake it without having to use another pan… Very key when you are out in the #wild… Remember, you have very limited water, so you don’t want to waste any of it washing unnecessary crap…

Now I just popped it into my pre-heated, #propane oven at 350 degrees, waited 30 minutes…

img_1724

And Wallah! This is my result… Looks delicious and it was delicious! Trader Joe’s Arrabiatta sauce is really good… It’s not that spicy at all, just has a little punch to it… You didn’t expect me to make my own sauce out in the middle of nowhere, did you? I will tackle that task in the future, when I am a little more comfortable with my living situation… I love to cook, so the #creativity will consume me and we will see some pretty crazy dishes in the near future, I guarantee it… Especially when I start fishing and possibly some small hunting…

What a meal folks! I ate while listening to free 99.1 and did some #writing… I headed to bed at 6:30, put on #TheTwilightZone and relaxed with a little help from #MaryJane… It was somewhat of a wasted day but it didn’t feel that way actually… I did a lot of writing and optimized my blog, so I got a lot of busy work done… Remember, #NOEXPECTATIONS! So when you have days like these you just make the best of them… No guilt, no worries because tomorrow may just be one of those really great days… We will see… Goodnight.

Tell the Traveling Mac what you think... be nice now...
