Day Forty Two… The Hunt for the Catskill State Park… 06/21/15

Whewie… Did I sleep like a baby last night…. It was so quiet and peaceful… It was #raining once again but the pitter patter of rain drops were so soothing… then waking up to #birds chirping and scattering on my roof was just plain grand… I had stayed at three different #Walmarts three nights in a row… It was time for a change… Some #nature please!!!!

IMG 3262IMG 3263

What is up with the #GasPrices, #NewYork? I mean, come on now… but I do like the fresh #bait vending machine… classic… Look, I don’t want to hate on #NY because it is so cliche of a Red Sox fan to do so… but I have a few gripes that I feel need to be made public…

IMG 3265IMG 3266

Here I am crossing the famous #SusquehannaRiver… I have a good feeling I will be #FlyFishing this #river very soon… Love the #AmericanFlags along the #bridge… Very #patriotic…

IMG 3269IMG 3271

You know NY, you have the highest gas prices on the #EastCoast so far… What is up with that? Then there are a million #tolls, which gets quite expensive… I wouldn’t have such a problem with the tolls if the #roads were good… I know you went through a rough #winter but these roads are atrocious… Every ten miles I am hitting more road work with no one there working!

As you can see in the second picture above, there were foot wide divets in the road… It said you could go 55 mph but #TheMilleniumFalcon was shaking so much, I had to go 40… This went on for like 10 miles! The people behind me were pissed and let me know it, let me tell you… Not only were they blowing their horns as they were trapped behind me in the single construction lane… When we got to the end, I got all kinds of pleasant things said to me and a common crude hand gesture angrily thrown at me as they passed on my left… Like I could help the roads being in such a condition that I couldn’t go the proper speed… I know #NewYorkers and they were probably looking at my #California plates and cursing at my slow, hippie ways…

I just started laughing and singing “Start spreading the news…” as people were yelling asshole out their windows… “I’m leaving here today…” some complementary crude hand gestures… “ I want to be apart of it… Oh New York… New York…”

It was a special moment, let me tell you… I wish I had the sense to video it because it would get a ton of hits on youtube, it was so absurd… Imagine their reaction if they saw me filming also?  I still love you, you miserable f&^%s!

IMG 3272IMG 3274

With that crazy experience over with, I was soon blessed with some kindness… Two little boys were #traveling with their parents, sitting in the back seat… they were pulling their arms up and down, signaling me to blow my horn… #TheBucketOfBolts doesn’t have much of a roar… well bark that is… but it put smiles on their faces when I let her loose…

I remember doing the same thing with friends when I was a kid… We would signal for every #truck we passed to blow his or her horn… I loved how sometimes it would freak the driver in our car out, thinking they were blowing their horn at him or her… You know how loud those truck horns are… lol.

#HappyFather’sDay to the #Dad’s out there! A little treat I noticed on my drive south through New York… If you look really hard you will see #smoke coming from different parts of the #mountains all along my route… I thought this was neat thinking about the #families that are together, cooking by the #campfire on #Father’sDay… A little present from #TheTravelingMac to the Dad’s out there… I admire what you do and hope to join your club some day…

IMG 3284IMG 3285IMG 3290IMG 3292

It was #raining quite a bit this #morning… I was missing the rain in #California and really enjoyed it for the first couple of weeks but enough already… Damn! They should advertise their rain! They would get a lot of #tourists from the west…

Advertisement- “Are you thirsty… Are you tired of conserving water… Are you tired of being told when you can and cannot water your lawn… Well, fret no more… Come to the East Coast! Where we will drown you with so much rain, you will be dreaming of rowing your ass back to the #drought… After a couple of weeks out here, you will swear off #water all together… not caring if you die of #thirst…”

I’m telling you, it will bring all the tourists… Many #WestCoasters would love to be sick of rain… Why don’t those affluent #RichAssholes who choose to water their lawn during a drought import water from the East Coast since they have so much money? They have plenty of it out here folks! Your lawn will suffer from drowning before it dies out here! Wow, I’m full of piss and vinegar today!

IMG 3293IMG 3294IMG 3296IMG 3298

So, I was finally off of the #highway, around 10 miles from my #destination… I found myself gritting my teeth, hoping the #roads would be friendly…

IMG 3299IMG 3300IMG 3302IMG 3303

Well, my hopes soon dashed when I entered the town of #Roscoe,NY where my #campsite was supposed to be located… I started hitting those really small roads that were #muddy and steep… but I continued on with caution… And if you can see in the second picture above, there were signs posted for #PrivateProperty… I was afraid the same thing was going to happen like at the last campsite I tried to locate in #NY… I was ready to turn around and hit the next #campsite…

IMG 3304IMG 3305

But I was relieved to find a spot down a very #SmallRoad and it had no signs posted except a sign stating “carry in, carry out…” Which essentially means take all of your crap with you!

IMG 3306IMG 3307

I left The Millennium Falcon as I explored for a better spot down this shifty, primitive road… It was so narrow, I was afraid of not being able to turn around somewhere…

IMG 3309IMG 3310

But those worries were soon put to rest when I stumbled upon this spot… I would have to drive really slow but could turn around here to get out, if need be…

IMG 3308IMG 3312

Here’s a fresh, clean shaven #TravelingMac… happy he had finally found a campsite… I will stay here two nights because that’s all the water I have… I also need to make it to #NewYorkCity by this weekend… So time is of the essence considering I want to visit one more #campsite after this… The #StateLand sign above reassured me I was fine #camping here…

IMG 3319

Just no camping between the road and the #river…

IMG 3320IMG 3321IMG 3323

I can see why because the trip down to that river does not look easy, so I’m guessing they are trying to avoid stupid injuries…

IMG 3316IMG 3327IMG 3318

I soon got the #Falcon down to my new temporary home… I almost blew a blood vessel as she shifted back and forth going down a very steep #hill… I hope I can make it back up… I know I will but it’s not going to be easy…

I was ready for some #grub… I was contemplating starting a #campfire but the #wood was soaked though… I was also surprised they wanted people to burn this processed wood… I thought it had chemicals in it that are bad for the #environment… I will #hunt for my own tomorrow… I’m not taking any chances…

It was leftover #AmericanChopChili tonight folks… Hmmmhmmm… I’m going to get to bed early and going for a #hike tomorrow… I’m bringing my #FlyFishingRod with me because I kept on seeing signs for it during my drive up here… Maybe I will get lucky and these #streams will lead to a nice huge #river… Till tomorrow… goodnight…

Tell the Traveling Mac what you think... be nice now...
