So, I slept in my #EnterpriseRental car last night and surprisingly enough, I slept quite well… It was freezing so I took out my trusty sleeping bag, declined the drivers seat and snuggled for a short good sleep… I went to bed around 4am and didn’t wake up until 9…
As you can see, I look a little rough around the edges but what do you expect when you sleep in a car for the night…
I was soon flabbergasted by my surroundings… Absolutely beautiful!
I soon found out I had parked right near the Marina, which is just down the road from #TheColoradoDreamRanch… To the left is the Marina and if you look to the right of the picture you will see Taylor Park across the lake…
I quickly got myself together and headed to see my new home for the next 5 weeks… When I got there, there was already a problem… I guess the closest Enterprise Rental place was an hour away and someone had to give me a ride back when I dropped the car off… It was too far for me to make it back by myself and when you are out in the middle of nowhere, transportation is something you have to plan for ahead of time…
So Chris, one of the owners, arranged for one of the head cooks to drive me… His name is Richard and he wasn’t too happy to be giving up his day because a drive into town was sure to eat up half of your day, at least… So, I followed him and an hour and a half later I was heading back to Taylor Park….
I soon cooled the situation by assuring Richard I would buy him an 8th of #weed for his troubles… It’s legal here folks so I don’t want to hear any grumbles… I’m just abiding by the law, so none of you can say shit! I had to offer, I felt so guilty because these guys have been understaffed and their off time is very valuable…
Richard soon warmed up to me on the ride back… We talked about the menu, which was given to me to study on the ride and we also talked about #Colorado… Richard let me know how things worked around here and also informed me about the drama that has been happening at #TaylorPark… Wow… Drama in a restaurant… Who would have thunk?
Now let me tell you, Richard is not a small dude… Richard knows his food and he aint afraid to show it! He talked about his homemade BBQ sauce and how he prides himself on cooking the perfect steak… He had my mouth watering by the time we got back to the ranch…
It was such a gorgeous drive and a great introduction to Colorado… I could feel the altitude and it was giving me some really good energy… You almost feel like Superman up here… Like the air has this crazy power…
I soon found out the significance of The Marina, which I parked overnight in front of… This is the only local place where you can buy real beer and alcohol… I guess Taylor Park has no liquor license so they are not allowed to sell anything over 3.5% alcohol…
Richard soon informed me not to buy beer from Taylor Park because it was half the alcohol content… I was shocked by this because Taylor Park sells Bud and Coors… But when you check the can the alcohol content is below 3.5%! WTF! I was more shocked that these big companies actually make a watered down version of their beer… Well, not that shocked because both of these beers taste like piss water even when they are at full alcohol content.. I couldn’t imagine what it would taste like watered down…
So, I soon decided I would barely drink on this job… Beer and liquor are not that important to me to travel miles to get or better yet, drink waterered down versions from brands I already hate… Anyway, there is another controversial recreation that I would rather partake in, if you catch my drift and it’s completely legal out here… Already I had my order by the night’s end thanks to Richard and I was dreaming about a good nights sleep with a little assistance…
But as soon as I got back and took a shower, Chris threw me to the wolves… They gave me some pens, an apron and put me to work… It was a complete shit show but I learned quickly… By the time it was over, I felt I had been working there for weeks… I went to bed exhausted and had to be ready to do a double the next day…
I have always been dreaming about being away from civilization… Well my dream has come true folks… #TheNuggetCafe is run old school style… You have to hand write your tickets and add them up yourself… No computer assistance except for a calculator and a really old cash register… We even have to tally the tax… I was a little worried about having to adapt to this primitive process but soon found it wasn’t so bad… Actually it seemed a little easier and more fun but lets see how I feel after doing it for weeks…
Above is one of the cooks named Jason… He takes a little more time than the other cooks but the customers love his food, so they don’t mind the wait so much… Hell, everything seems to run slower around here and I am looking forward to matching their pace…
Wow! That’s all I can say! Yesterday I was in Kansas wondering what my fate would be and tonight I am making money waiting tables on a ranch… No matter how hard my life can be it is nothing short of interesting… I guess I should be at least thankful for the adventures and thankful my life never ever gets a single intsy bit boring…
I’ve finally completed the blog and am now current and I’m still amazed by your tenacity! Keep your chin up and plow forward. You’ve come so far; there’s no backing down now! I’m excited to continue reading this journey of yours and I’m praying you start writing again soon! From your newest reader and fellow south shorian (yeah, I know…I made it up) may all the forces be with you🗽
