Another gorgeous morning as #TheTravelingMac woke up in the pretty #MossCoveRestArea to the sound of a mighty #creek… I sleep so amazingly when I park next to a river or creek… And after a long day of traveling, waking up this way is such a pleasant plus…
I was soon outside with my coffee, taking in everything I could as my senses rapidly triggered my brain, overloading it with all kinds of #nature’s pleasantries…
But this morning didn’t come without its set backs… I needed a cup of boiling water this morning, so I plugged my instant plug in kettle to fire up some H2O…
Then suddenly all of the power in the house went out! I mean everything from the lights to the fridge… Nothing was working inside…
Naturally, I instantly thought it was a fuse… Makes sense because I plugged in the kettle into my AC converter plug which I use to fire up the tv while on the road… Obviously the kettle’s start up was too much for the inverter and #TheMillenniumFalcon, so she blew a fuse…
I looked around for a little bit but gave up eventually… It wasn’t a fuse that I knew about and now I was completely in the dark when it came to this problem…
So it went from a nice, beautiful morning to an instant catastrophe… I know I sound a little dramatic here but without house power, this trip is going to be a lot more difficult… I mean, If I fire up the Generator then the house lights work… But that’s what makes this so frustrating because that indicates its a fuse also… If your #generator still lights up the house but your batteries don’t, that’s usually a fuse problem between the batteries and the house… Especially considering the lights went out when I powered up a foreign device…
But #TheRedWoodNationalForest was still waiting and we are on a time schedule here… So I reluctantly gave up on the power problem and planned on addressing it tonight and tomorrow…
So, we have hit our first hiccup… I was prepared for it.. I had my little freak out then we were back on track…
I never planned on this trip being easy and if this is the biggest problem we encounter, then I will take it… I have to remember, almost two years ago, I was broken down in Kansas with no engine… So, I will gladly take an electrical problem…
Tracey and I were prepared for a gorgeous trip up the coast… they say one of the most amazing parts of this #CoastalDrive is passing through these woods as you drive up the #coast… We also planned to stop and see some friends from Death Valley who were working in #Humboldt,CA…
But then after about two hours of driving we ran into this… Tracey mentioned the roads being closed up here but we figured we would take our chances…
Well, we didn’t win this bet… not even close…
This was going to be one of those days folks… It started out pretty shitty and it didn’t look like it was going to get any better…
I talked to the cop up here and he said the road was completely closed and that we had to drive about 4 hours out of our way to backtrack to where we want to be…
So, the whole first half of this day was a complete waste of time until I saw these Hillary dolls… I needed the chuckle and couldn’t resist taking a picture as I got another coffee in a convenient store conveniently located right where the road was closed…
So, by this time, the tension was high… My house lights weren’t working, we had wasted an afternoon of driving and now we needed to figure out our plan of attack considering plans have changed…
Though the drive up here and back was visually uplifting, the energy was not… I was basically trying to keep my cool…
I didn’t mind the #detour so much but the fact that something was broken in #TheFalcon was making mind do cartwheels trying to figure out what the hell went wrong… I would be fine with something being wrong if I knew what it was… the fact I can’t figure it out is the most frustrating part of it all which amplifies every other problem you face after..
This on top of any other added stress makes #TheTravelingMac go crazy! It seems like when one thing goes wrong everything seems to come conveniently crashing down after… Like a perfect storm…
And I know that this is the one thing in my life I have to really work on… I have a temper and when crap comes crashing down, I want to instantly lash out in fury…
It’s unfortunate because the sights were inspiring but I couldn’t get the full experience with this problem in the back of my mind…
We cut through this little town with a huge lake… We had to back track on route 101 and then head east and north to make our way back to our mapped out journey…
We pulled over and had lunch by the lake…Then I went under the hood once again, stressing over this anomaly of a problem…
I just couldn’t figure it out… So, Tracey and I decided to tackle this problem right away instead of letting it dog us the whole trip…
So we decided to head to #Redding,CA and stay at a #RVPark there… We can hook up, wash everything, fix the problem and then start from scratch once again, with a new, more improved attitude…
I had a theory that one of the batteries was bad and had destroyed the other marine battery, creating this house power problem… It was a stretch but I had to reassure myself somewhat even though the solution doesn’t seem to fit the problem… So, we would just find an AutoZone and I will try out a new battery there… If that didn’t work then we either travel with the problem or go to a mechanic…
It was all just boggling my mind because the problem and its symptoms screams “A Blown Fuse!” Yet all of the fuses I checked were all fine… Damn this RV!!! LOL!
This picture above says so much without any words… You can see the frustration in my face while I ponder and obsess over this unexplainable problem… Then I of course went through the regret phase… where I beat myself up for using that stupid kettle in the first damn place…
I vowed to Tracey that I would take a baseball bat to that kettle! I hated that kettle by now! I couldn’t believe such a small, insignificant device could create such a nightmare for me… All of this is stewing in my mind as I obsess and drive…
The Millennium Falcon is apart of me folks… She has taught me so much as we have grown together… When something is wrong with her it feels like something is wrong with me… So, I can never really enjoy much when I have such worries weighing me down…
After a long day of driving, detours and problems we finally made it to the #SacramentoRiverRVPark… Tomorrow’s a new day… We were exhausted at this point…Both mentally and physically… We were soon in bed, ready to face tomorrow, what ever it may bring…
When life hands you a bunch of lemons, don’t fret, just make lemonade…
