After a great meal last night… Thanks to #TheTravelingMac’s #campfire cooking skills… lol… and a good nights rest… We were ready to make the leap across the #Alaskan/CanadianBorder…
#TheMillenniumFalcon was emptied and filled with water… and even though I had the worry of fragments of marijuana that could be found in #TheFalcon and the possibility of the guards invading my privacy by searching my phone or computer, I was as ready as I could be…
Is this the #UnitedStatesOfAmerica that I’m entering here folks? I mean… are you fucking kidding me? I have to worry about my private computer and phone being searched without a warrant? WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you are not concerned about this type of behavior then I suggest you learn how authoritarian countries like #Russia do things!
If you look at the image above, you will get a really good example of #permafrost on the #ALCAN… You can see the damage on the road and how it dips… You hit that at a high speed in this vehicle, it feels like the world is ending… The roads were particularly bad before and after the border…
I really don’t understand this considering it gives a really bad impression of your country but I guess they use it as a security measure… If you try to fly across the border without being checked in, these roads will do you in eventually if you are traveling at a high speed… unless you are driving a tank or something…
We were soon across the border and had no troubles what so ever… the guard was very courteous… He checked our identifications and asked us where we were going… I told him about our summer work plans and that we will be coming back to the #Lower48States in the fall…
AND HERE WE ARE FOLKS!!!! The first major objective of this trip is achieved…
WE ARE IN ALASKA FOLKS!
We are back within the #UnitedStates… Now, if anything goes wrong with The Falcon, at least we are not in a #ForeignCountry… We are in familiar territory and any disasters can be dealt with much easier on our own land…
I wanted to stop at this monument directly across the border but we decided to check it out on the way back in September… I was still a little gun shy about the #border area… Once I feel more comfortable then I will explore this area a little closer…
Hey, its not my fault we have an #AttorneyGeneral like #JeffSessions who hates #MarijuanaLegalization and has openly boasted about how he will not respect state laws when it comes to #Legalization… I love how little weasels like this infringe on the rights of the States when it comes to harmless issues they don’t agree with but will defend the states’ rights when it comes to human rights issues of abortion or even slavery… He’s such a little monster… A perfect puppet for our mighty great #Authoritarian leader #Trump, who openly praises other #AuthoritarianLeaders… Oh god, what has happened to our world? We were making so much progress!
I was just anxious to get this #trip completed… We were close to the finish line… It looked like all of the planning, worrying and stress was going to pay off… We were pretty much on schedule and it looked like we would have a few days to spare before we started our new job at #TheDenaliBrewingCompany…
To think this was just a dream for The Traveling Mac about two years ago when he bought The Millennium Falcon… I have talked about making this trip ever since I started this new way of life… I didn’t plan on coming up here to work and I certainly didn’t plan on having a fellow #traveler…
But the dream was there and now it is coming to fruit two years later…
It started pouring #rain out… A nice introduction to #Alaska… It was almost like the rain was washing away all of the plans, troubles and worries of the last two years… All of that preparation was now being washed away… We were finally here and boy did it feel good!
We still had a couple of hours to travel before we got to the first town called #Tok,Alaska… I guess you have to pass through this town to get into Alaska, so its a very talked about #landmark up here… This is where you finally leave the #ALCAN and can feel a little relief because the hardest part of your trip is finally over…
You still have to watch for #Permafrost and all kinds of wildlife but the worse was already tackled…
We could sit, relax and let that sense of accomplishment set in…
And here is our first #AlaskanPorcupine! This was the first creature besides birds to welcome us into Alaska… I wonder if he has any idea of his importance on this monumental day… lol…
We owe Tracey all of the praise for all of her hard work looking for a job in Alaska… And I believe she hit a gold mine here… I had a very good feeling I was going to love this job…
Tracey found this place through a traveling job website called #coolworks.com… I had never heard of the town #Talkeetna until I started this trip… If you know a little tv show from the 90’s called #NorthernExposure then you know the town of #Talkeetna,AK… That show was based on this small town that has the population of around 800 people… They have a cat for a mayor called #Stubs and are very #anti-government… But we will get into depth about this amazing little town when we finally get there…
For now, we are just trying to get there in one piece…
We soon entered Tok at 9pm… It took us three hours to get here from the border…
And we were starving… Tracey found this little #diner that is open until 11pm called #FastEddies… So, we high tailed it there before it got too close to closing time… Being in the restaurant industry, Tracey and I don’t like to show up right before closing… We hate it when it happens in the restaurants we work in, so we try to not to be so inconsiderate to others…
Folks, if you show up 10 minutes before a restaurant closes, demanding service, then you’re an inconsiderate asshole… Sorry… I know the time is listed as such but expecting a kitchen and all of its servers to stay late just for you, makes you an inconsiderate dick… I’m sorry but that’s what you are…And you are really hurting small family run businesses by doing this because they have to pay extra labor just for your sole inconsiderate ass… I know we are here to serve you but that doesn’t give you the excuse to totally disregard common courtesy… In not so many words, stop being a dick and think of the establishment also…
We got a pepperoni pizza that was huge and a couple of cocktails to celebrate… Tracey and I were so excited that we were finally here! The mood was ecstatic even though we were pretty much exhausted…
My body was definitely reminding me of the past month travels… My back was all cramped up from sitting and driving… my elbow was in excruciating pain from white knuckle driving and my left shoulder was hurting also… Not to be gross but your regularity gets all messed up also because you are sitting so much… We both couldn’t wait to get into a regular routine again… And believe it or not, we were ready to start our new job… Because nothing gets your body back into the swing of things than a job that requires running around with your head cutoff… And this was one of those jobs… We had already been warned…
Tracey found a nice little #Pull-off about 20 minutes away… We planned on going back and checking out #Tok before we headed towards #Anchorage,AK… We especially wanted to see if they had any #HuskyPuppies to purchase yet… It’s a little early but Tracey and I were highly contemplating on getting a dog up here…
And wouldn’t you know that one of the #TokGiftShops sells huskies for only $350… With all of the shots and even some training…
The moon was extra spectacular tonight… I enjoyed taking pictures of it as the darkness set in… It is now midnight and its still light out…
We soon hit the hay after parking… We went to bed both relieved and excited to see our new home… We don’t have a place to stay yet but we figured we would figure that out when we got there… Heidi, who hired us, gave us a few leads, around town to check out… One is a #CampHost job that is only 150 feet from the famous #TalkeetnaRiver…
Oh, what a backyard that would be!!!!
