So #TheTravelingMac, Tracey and #TheMillenniumFalcon woke up in #Alaska for the first time in our lives!
And boy did it feel good!
We immediately hit the #Tok,Alaska gift shop to check out the Husky Puppies but they didn’t have any yet… We decided we would try on our way back down in September…
But it was #Mother’sDay soon, so I had to get something for the Mums and what’s better than some gifts from our first day in a #FamousAlaskanTown…
But you better bet your ass I couldn’t resist getting this mile marker sign from the gift shop that shows that The Millennium Falcon made the treacherous drive up the #ALCAN… It’s so perfect that the #RV image on the plaque looks like the actual Millennium Falcon… It’s like it was meant to be!
You can see it hanging right above the end of my couch as you walk into #TheFalcon! I now have bragging rights and you know how I like to brag… lol!
I was in a mood of ecstasy today even though my body was aching from the treacherous #travels… I was just so happy to be here…
There’s some of that famous burl I am obsessed with above…
I was so proud of myself, Tracey and everything that made this trip possible… This was a trip we have been planning for since the beginning of February and we had finally got through the thick of it…
And the sights were remarkable… The #GiftShops were set up like #museums… #Tok is a very welcoming town that obviously caters to the #tourists who pass through here every year…
But there was one problem that still remained… I haven’t been sleeping very well because I have been without #marijuana for almost a week now…
And I certainly wanted a good nights sleep tonight… But the closest #WeedShop was in #Anchorage,AK and it closed at Midnight…
Just a little before 12am was our arrival time, so we were cutting it close…
I just wanted to celebrate our new temporary home state with a nice joint before I went to bed… I wanted to enjoy what I have accomplished in a state of ecstasy and I had never been high in Alaska before… lol!
And yes Marijuana is now fully legal in Alaska and Alaska wasted no time implementing the new laws unlike all of the other states…. #California, who was the first to #LegalizeMedically in 1996, is still in the process of legalizing fully and said it won’t be implemented until 2018!
What a load of shit! They are already set up for legal distribution through their many medical facilities which now out number the #Starbucks in Los Angeles… What a bunch of bureaucratic bullshit!!! Folks, we need to own our weed as a public in this country!
We can not just hand over another huge industry to the huge companies like the #CigaretteCompanies, just so they can poison us again and exploit us with high priced, crappy, chemical filled weed! And trust me, that’s why they are delaying the implementation of fully legal weed into Californian society… Just so all of the big wigs can grab their share…
When are we going to learn?
And the only way to beat the #BigCorporations at their game is to create a #subculture in the #MarijuanaIndustry that frowns upon any big business selling this plant! They have opposed its #legalization for decades and now its finally becoming legal… like it should have been in the first place, and now all of the big #Corps are lining up for their share? Fuck Them!
How fucking stupid are we folks? Lets keep something for the people! Lets use this great legalization movement to stick it to the big companies! Can’t we stand up for anything in this country that doesn’t involve money? Can’t we create our own culture that defies the greedy message of corporations, who are the ones who are stripping away our culture all together?
Folks, I know I repeat myself and I am an opinionated loud mouth but the reason I am so animated about this crap is because I can see our #freedom slowly slipping away as these #MammothCorporations merge into the equivalence of a modern day #monarchy…
I don’t know my full purpose on this earth but trying to stop this huge take over of our way of life by these mammoth companies definitely plays into what I want to fight against…
So, we had a good 7 hour drive ahead of us… It was now 5pm… We had a few chores to do and we got to a slow start today… We are all exhausted and tired of traveling by this point…
But the final drive along the ALCAN was beautiful and very challenging at points…
At first, it seemed like it was going to be a pretty straight forward drive…
It was just stretches of highway road for miles to see…
With gorgeous #SnowCoveredMountains in every direction you could see…
We are in Alaska folks and it is pretty damn magnificent up here so far!
It’s funny how warm it is out compared to what is surrounding us… If I was reading this blog, I would guess its about 30 degrees out but it was in the high 60’s today…
There was definitely a chill in the air that you really noticed when you were hit with a sudden breeze…
But nothing a wind breaker or light jacket couldn’t handle…
We planned on staying in Anchorage overnight… We figured we could stay at #Cabela’s, a sporting goods store that allows #RVers to park in their lot…
But the nice, easy drive soon came to an end around 9pm… Thank god it doesn’t get dark until really late out here because this windy, hilly mess would have been extremely dangerous to navigate in the night…
We soon found ourselves going up and down some #mountains… It was obvious that Anchorage was on the other side of a large range of mountains…
Our first #AlaskanMoose folks!!!!! And boy does he look a lot different from a #CanadianMoose… Much darker, larger and intimidating looking…
My first #AlaskanGlacier above folks!!!! Actually my first glacier all together, I think… lol…
Then we ran into another Moose… Oh boy, were they out tonight… Makes sense considering they like to feed at night…
This poor guy was confused… He didn’t know which way to go…
I just sat back and enjoyed the show right in front of me… Oh what a great blessing this was… I got to see this moose in its whole entirety… She was so remarkable… Or he… It’s hard to tell right now because they shed their #antlers over the winter… But I’m guessing a male judging by his massiveness, beauty and dark markings…
But I could be wrong and I’m sure I will be corrected about a lot of things up here considering I have no clue about this state and its many #creatures…
The only way I know anything about Alaska is by the nature shows I have watched in the past…
But I am surprisingly very ignorant about Moose and #Grizzlies up here… I am so excited to learn though…
The drive got really difficult at this time… It was not any worse than usual but my elbow, back and shoulder were killing me and I managed to tweek my hip this morning also… So, I had pains all over…
Going up and down, twisting left and right was really pushing my last nerve… I was so anxious to get to Anchorage and finally arrive in #Talkeetna,AK tomorrow…
But after we got over the mountains, it was easy driving from that point on… We were soon in Anchorage and I made the #WeedShop with a few minutes to spare… I asked to buy an Ounce and they told me it would cost $600!
“WHAT? Are you kidding me?” I said… the clerk responded “Blame economics…”
Like that was an explanation… So I just bought an1/8 for $65… The most expensive 1/8th I have ever purchased! But I understand that they rushed their legislation through and maybe this is the result of such a rush… As soon as things settle in, these prices will drop or everyone will just buy from private dealers… Why would anyone pay such prices? It may as well be illegal!
I’m sure I will find a private dealer in Talkeetna, so I don’t have to pay such outrageous prices… I couldn’t afford such prices… I don’t know how anyone can…
So, we parked in Cabela’s for the night… I find no reason to explore or talk about Anchorage… It’s pretty much a city shit hole in my opinion… Sorry to all of the Anchorage natives… But when a homeless drunk drugged up guy tries to open my door to my private home, I’m going to say it isn’t the safest place… And it seemed like there was a lot of this going on everywhere…
So, the next day we did laundry, filled the falcon with propane and gas, shopped and made our way to Talkeetna which was about four hours away…
When we got to Talkeetna, we stayed in a #pull-off miles from the town center… I’m sorry I didn’t get pictures of this part of the trip but other things were more important at this time.. We did not have a home to park The Falcon yet for the summer, we needed to check into our job and tons of other worries that we faced when we arrived…
Needless to say, it was a little scary at first… On our first day in Talkeetna, we called and drove around, trying to find a place to live… We found an #RVPark about 4 miles from town… The owner offered us a price of $400 a month… It was a good back up plan but Tracey and I wanted something closer to our job considering we left her car back in Los Angeles…
We had two more good leads… there was an elementary school where they wanted a couple to stay all summer to prohibit vandalism… The problem with this is they had no dump, no hookups and it was still a good walk from work..
But then we got a call from #TheTalkeetnaRiverPark #camping area… It was only a 5 minute walk to work and it came with water and electric… The only problem was the dumping.. But my new #RiverPark boss and I came up with a solution…
We will be talking about that in the next post…
Welcome to Talkeetna,Alaska folks!
